CD and CD Burner Drives

At today's prices, it is a good idea to purchase a DVD burner drive, which will burn DVD's as well as CD's.

For all CD and CD burner drives you have two different types to choose from. There is internal and there is external. If you purchase an external drive, be sure to verify that you have the type of connection that it requires. There are many different types of connections. The most popular being Parallel, USB and Firewire. Most computers today have a Parallel and USB connection, but not all have firewire. If you do not have a USB or Firewire connection, you can add one to your computer if you have an available PCI slot. Take a look at our recommended USB and Firewire add-on cards. If you are looking at adding an internal drive, just make sure you have an available drive bay in the front of your computer, and that your IDE cable has a plug in left on the IDE cable.

CD Drives

CD Burner Drive
CD burner drives come in many different speeds. They usually will show you three different speeds. Our recommended drive is the Lite-On 52x32x52 Internal CD-RW Drive (LTR-52327S). The first number, means 52X CD-R write speed. The second number means 32X CD-RW Rewrite speed. The third number means 52X CD-Rom Read speed. On CD-R disks, you can write (burn) the CD one time. On CD-RW disk, you can write (burn) the disk and format the disk and write (burn) to it again and again. The CD-RW disks are a bit more expensive because they are re-useable.
