Delete Items In The "RUN" Key Of The Registry

Entering or deleting items in your registry incorrectly can cause the system to become unstable and might require a rebuild. Enter your registry at your own risk.

Double click START
Double click RUN
Type in REGEDIT
Double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Double click on SOFTWARE
Double click on MICROSOFT
Double click on WINDOWS
Double click on CURRENT VERSION
Click on RUN

Go through the section on the right pane very carefully. If you see any odd names that you know that you do not need, then you should delete these entries. Especially if they point to files that you know are spyware, adware, or viruses. Each item that is in this window will start up when your computer starts. As items get added, it increases the time that it takes for your system to boot up each time, and it also slows your system down a little bit with each different program that is running. Be careful because some items are needed in order for software or hardware to function on your machine. If you are not sure, then you should browse to the directory and see if it is part of something that you may need. It is better to be safe than sorry, so we recommend that you do not delete anything unless you know for sure that you do not need the files associated with the registry keys.

You can also go to the RUNONCE key that is right below the RUN key and do the same thing. You can repeat the steps above for HKEY_CURRENT_USER and each user that is expandable under HKEY_USERS, and browse down to the same level (Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, Run and also RunOnce).
