Naming The Computers And The Workgroup
You must configure each computer to have a unique computer name and the same workgroup name. No two computers can have the same computer name in your workgroup or it will not be function on your network.
To assign a name and a workgroup to the computer, follow these steps:
- Click Start, (Click Settings if you are using Windows Classic View), click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance.
- Click See basic information about your computer. If you are using Classic view in Control Panel, double-click System instead.
- Click the Computer Name tab, you can type a description of your computer here if you want to but it is not mandatory, and then click OK.
- Click Change on the Computer Name tab, and then click OK.
- Name the computer a unique name. Also be sure to include each of the computers in the same workgroup name.
- Click OK, click OK again, and then you must restart your computer.
