Memory Upgrades: How To
The first step is to find out how many available slots for memory are available in your computer. You will need to shut down your computer, unplug your computer, and then open up the computer case. Take a look at your motherboard, and find your computer memory. Find out how many slots you have that are empty. You can also replace the currently installed memory with larger memory modules.

Then next step is to find out which type of memory that you can install in your system. You can find this information from the website of your computer manufacturer, or motherboard manufacturer.

To install memory, you must shut down your computer and unplug the computer. Open up the computer case, remove the old memory if you will be replacing it, and install the new memory in the vacant slots. Some memory must be installed in pairs of the exact same size and type.
After the memory is installed, close your computer case back up. Plug in your computer and boot your system up. You should verify that the new memory is being recognized by either going into the system bios or right clicking your "My Computer" icon and choosing properties. The total memory (RAM) size will be listed at the bottom of the properties window.
